چکیده

Kidney function investigations in veterinary medicine are traditionally based on blood analysis (blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine concentration) and / or urinalysis (urine specific gravity, proteinto-creatinine ratio or fractional excretion). Morphologic information is usually obtained by abdominal radiography or ultrasonography. However, when more specific information on the functionality of the kidneys is needed, nuclear medicine offers various tracers that specifically represent glomerular filtration rate, effective renal plasma flow or functional renal mass, sometimes combining functional and morphologic data. These procedures can be based on blood sampling techniques (non-imaging methods), or data can be obtained using a gamma-camera (imaging methods). The most commonly used radionuclides for the examination of kidney function in small animal medicine are discussed in this review.

Brain perfusion part 2: anesthesia and brain perfusion in small animals Hersenperfusie deel 2: anesthesie en hersenperfusie bij kleine huisdieren

Sedatives and anesthetics can influence cerebral metabolism and respiratory and cardiovascular dynamics, which results in changes in cerebral perfusion. This is of major importance when functional brain imaging techniques are used to measure cerebral blood flow or to evaluate neurotransmitter systems, and also during neurosurgery. In the present review, the influences on brain perfusion of diff...

Assessment of deconvolution technique for diagnosis of hydronephrosis in infants (under 6 months) [persian]

Introduction: Hydronephrosis is one of the major causes of referring infants for nuclear medicine investigation. Renal dynamic study is the most reliable investigation for such children. However direct evaluation of renogram leads to generation of parameters that have no physiological interpretation. The configuration of renogram is very much dependent upon the rate at which radiopharmace...

Rapid loss of renal function due to obstruction: minimal residual activity

A man with metastatic carcinoma of the colon had a bone scan which revealed urinary retention in the left kidney. Ten months later, a Tc-99m-DTPA renai glomerular study showed the left kidney to have only 8% of total renal function. Fifteen months after that, (he same kidney demonstrated 9% of total function, while the right kidney had evolving obstruction due to his neoplasm. The case sh...

Evaluating the Recovery Process of Renal Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury in Rats Using Small-Animal SPECT

Background: Renal injuries associated with ischemia/reperfusion are a prevalent clinical phenomenon that can cause the emergence of progressive kidney diseases, eventually leading to chronic kidney injuries. The present study was conducted to evaluate the results obtained from non-invasive imaging using small-animal SPECT and investigate the recovery process in an animal model of renal ischemia...

Assessment of the maximum uptake time of 99mTc-DMSA in renal scintigraphy in rat

Introduction:The optimal imaging time of a radionuclide scintigraphy is the time at which the organ of interest has the maximum uptake of the injected radionuclide. This study was performed to investigate the maximum uptake time of 99mTc-DMSA in rat renal scan. Methods: Renal scintigraphy was performed with 3 mCi of 99mTc-DMSA. Planar ima...
